2 Year old non diabetic

Hi my son is 2 years old and not feeling well. How would I know if he was diabetic?

He drinks loads anyway and he's tired because he's not feeling too good.
He does has a pear drop smell on his breath that he had a lot not just when he's unwell.

I am a type one diabetic but his dad doesn't have diabetes.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Hi, my granddaughter had similar symptoms and was diagnosed type 1 at 2 1/2 years ( we thought it was terrible two's). If you could do a finger prick test on him (it's not nice) but would give you an idea of what could be going on. His symptoms may not be diabetes related, but best to get him seen by your GP asap.

Thank you. I have been thinking about doing a finger prick but didn't want to hurt him. I will definitely do that and get him into the doctors.

I would definitely take him to the doctors, we were lucky to catch my 4 year olds when we did as she wasn't far off having DKA, hope you get some answers X
