Malky Mackay sacked as Wigan manager
Malky Mackay has been sacked as Wigan manager after four and a half months in charge of the Championship strugglers.

The 43-year-old former Cardiff City boss, appointed on 19 Novemberfollowing the departure of Uwe Rosler, secured 19 points from a possible 72.

He was sacked following Monday's 2-0 home defeat by Derby County, a result that leaves the Latics eight points adrift of safety with five games left.

"This is a very difficult decision," said Wigan chairman David Sharpe.

"But I feel that for the long-term future of the club, there needs to be a change now."

Wigan's defeat by Derby means they have not won a home league game since 30 August, a run of 18 matches.

The club said no decision has been made regarding Mackay's replacement.

Blackpool fans threw fireworks and eggs in a protest against the club's owners before their 1-1 draw against Reading.

The Tangerines' relegation from the Championship was confirmed on Monday.

Chairman Karl Oyston, son of owner Owen, was targeted by protestors who chanted "Oyston out" and "we're relegated because of your greed".

On the pitch, Blackpool took an early lead through Jamie O'Hara's penalty but it was cancelled out by Grant Hall's second-half own goal.

Dozens of supporters gathered outside the ground before kick-off and hurled eggs at the back of the directors' boxes before a flare, smoke bomb and firework were thrown into a cordoned-off area.

Some of the protestors did not venture into a half-empty stadium for the match and Blackpool manager Lee Clark admitted he needs to build a winning team in League One to try and entice supporters back.

Clark said: "We're down a level and that's going to be hard. We've obviously had a horrendous season to put up with.



I dont blame them either Oystons have let the fans down big time. Bet there wont be as many going to games in division 1 until they start to show some promise.
 
I really feel for Blackpool supporters; it wasn't so long ago that they were playing Premiership football (albeit not very well )

Still - at least I know how they feel, having experienced a similar plunge a few seasons back. I can't see the Oystons performing the same role as the Leibherr family did for Saints, mind you.
 
Us Rovers fans spent eleven years in the what is now known as the championship. A league cup final. Great cup runs.Three seasons in the play offs before it blew up in our faces. Relegation to league 1, cutbacks, because of lack of investment.
Massive loss of revenue, crowds down etc.
Years in the doldrums, no attempt to get back in the championship, as long as we survive!

Now relegation from the league itself is looming hard. We have new owners and there is a great future ahead even if we drop. Once you start sliding and no investment, there is only one way, and that's down.

Where the tangerines are now, we have been there!
Really feel sorry for the fans, spending so much money supporting their team.
Football is cruel sometimes.
 
Be a few more upsets after this weekend and next Tuesdays matches.If Wigan lose tonight and Rotherham win tomorrow afternoon then i reckon thats Wigan gone. Millwall could be the 3rd relegation candidate after Tuesday night if they lose tomorrow and Tuesday but they play Wigan on Tuesday night so gunna be a right old battle.

Rovers have two away games at Sarfend and Mansfield. Anything less than 4 points from these games will almost certainly put another nail in the coffin. I can't see us doing it. Miracles are required!!

Getting really confident that we are done for! The fat lady is warming up!

Big games for the premiership with the manc derby, think city will just win by the odd goal.
Saints to win and the hammers to lose. Arsenal to cruise to victory.

Yes there are few twists and turns to come in all the leagues some of which will be sorted tomorrow and next Tuesday some will go all the way to the wire.Thankfully we arent gunna be one of the to wire ones this time.

Good Draw for Wigan last night gives em a bit of a chance.Poor old Brighton fell at Bournemouth.Rare old scrap at the top now any 2 of 6 teams could get auto promo. In fact Brentford could sneak it yet though being realistic i think thats a long shot.Ill stick my neck on the line and say that Bournemouth are going up along with Norwich or Watford or Middlesborough

Hope Bournemouth go up - it'll be good to have a South Coast Derby that doesn't involve having to protect two sets of fans from each other (for the uninitiated, supporters of Saints and Pompey aren't always the best of friends).

Well, they certainly should do, although I never cease to be amazed at their ability to lose what should be a walk-over game whilst (for example) holding Chelski to a draw at Stamford Bridge .....

But they really, really ought to beat Hull .....
 
Incidentally, although I spend all my time drivelling on about Saints, I also have a soft spot for my local team, Winchester City. Winners of the FA Vase in 2004 and hopping between the Wessex League and the Southern League over the past few years. Last game of the season today, a home fixture against Totton and Eling, who are languishing at the bottom of the table. Win City are second in the table so, like the Saints, if they can't win today...

Then there's the North Hants Cup final against Andover New Street on 22nd April. The clash of the Titans

I think things would have to get a lot worse before you found yourselves in company with Win City, excellent though they are

I can't remember the exact circumstances, but there was a point a few years back - round about the time of the FA Vase win - when Winchester won promotion to another league but had to forgo it, because their ground didn't have the requisite facilities for such exalted company. Let's face it: you're never going to have that problem
 
Cardiff City fans will boycott Saturday's away game against Leeds United over what they call a "derisory ticket allocation".

Club chief executive, Ken Choo, said he believed West Yorkshire Police could manage the event "without any issue or restrictions, if they chose to do so".

The Leeds club said it had consulted with the police and The Football League on the matter and was disappointed there would be no Cardiff supporters.


The Police can now concentrate on looking after the animals as they enter and exit the Elland road zoo
