2017/2018 Football Season



Its certainly cruel.
 
Money is not filtering its way down the leagues. The 'elite' (top 6) are just getting richer. You just have to look at how many players these clubs have out on loan throughout the leagues to see how strong they are. The wages are massive in the Prem, and this has also filted through the leagues with bang average players asking for stupid money. The club's are paying it and ending up in huge trouble.

Our issues stem from being ran like a corner shop and everything short term. No long term plan on how to be self sufficient. We are on our way to league one and I cannot see the slide stopping there. We have an owner who just doesn't give a toss anymore.
 


You are ok with the premiership parachute payments for a couple of years, but it is how you use it!
You still have players who were signed on premiership wages and also the championship is a very competitive league, with many paying stupid wages to get up to the promised land.

Leeds sacked their manager yesterday because they have dropped out of the play off positions. They are currently mid table!

Owners want quick success. Its ludicrous how fast the turnover is.

I think clubs who consider themselves "big" need a reality check. They were big from bygone years and now need to fight to get back into thebig time. Sooner owners realise that the better for the club. More stability and the chance to build a strong unit.
 
There must be about 50 clubs that considered to be or have been in the premiership.

Only twenty have the right. So the battle is on for that elusive promotion.

Money helps but you need a lot of luck to go your way through the season.

Even now Wolves could crash and burn!

Too early to call yet!
A good run in can bring momentum into the playoffs.
And it's a lottery from there!

Yes very happy! Didn't go to the match but I am so pleased to see Ramsay and Ozil playing well again. Looking forward to Wembley next week now! (Spurs Prem match)

Yeah just look at how lucky we were at the first off shot to the top of the Premiership pile and now look at us Suddenly staring at relegation its kinda scary but we have some matches left where we can and ought to pick some points and enough to survive. I think if we go down its only a matter of time before we wave bye bye to David Wagner cos someone else would poach him and someone with quite a lot of money that he'd find hard to resist. Fingers crossed we stay up.

It's sometimes difficult to figure out the machinations of clubs.

Saints sacked Nigel Adkins after he got the team back in the Premiership from Division 1, in consecutive seasons. They replaced him with Mauricio Pochettino who was very good, but who vanished at the speed of light after a year, when a bigger club (Spurs) lured him away: something similar happened with Ronald Koeman, who was seduced by Everton, albeit with a rather less successful outcome for him. In neither case can I see much evidence that the Club fought to retain them.

Then they dumped Puel, who's season in charge wasn't desperately exciting but which included getting to the League Cup final and finishing in the top half of the Premiership, to replace him with someone who, so far, has got us to two points above the drop zone and the loss of Virgil van Dyk - although I concede that this wasn't really his fault. I suppose we're still in the FA Cup, for what it's worth.

As a money-making business, Saints are doing a good job, mostly by buying and developing promising players and then selling them on to clubs with (often) more money than sense. As a club to excite and retain the loyalty of their devoted fans (and they have a lot) - not so much. It's all a bit of a mystery to me :***:
 
We sacked Lee Clark a few years ago and he was the man who steered us to 43 games unbeaten and we weren't doing that bad. But his replacement Simon Grayson from Leeds did us proud and got us promoted to the championship. If we go back down this time then I think we may well be waving bye bye to Wagner. But hopefully that wont happen so hey ho.
