2nd HBA1C

Hello, I just had my second HBA1C after being diagnosed type 2 with one of 55 in January.

Dr told me to lose weight and watch my diet, exercise more etc. I have done all that.

I am not on any meds at present.

My latest HBA1C came in at 41. Will I now have to take meds or does that sound ok?

All my self tests are normal in morning and two hours after eating.

My Hba1c before the last one was 42 and this resulted in the nurse saying that I could try it without the Glimipiride. We have not yet come to an agreement about the Metformin.

So I suppose it depends what meds you are on and how your nurse feels about it but you are below target so you have chances.

Do you want to carry on with trying diet alone?

Are you low carbing? What are you eating?

Have you had a look at the low carb forum? There are quite a few nice recipes on there.

Taking medication is entirely up to you. But the longer you can keep off it the better. I was diagnosed in October last year. I have had one HBA1C, and that as far as I know pretty okay - but I have to be careful with medication because of the severe M.E. and am already on some other medication which is increased gradually for prevention of other conditions - such as preventing my migraines from happening, hayfever, and me from throwing up and also Oramorph (baby dose 2ml *4 daily) so to add another one in the equation won't be happening yet.

But then again if you want to give the Metformin a try please ask for the SR one as it is more gentle on the stomach, as I have heard. You can always come off it again later. It is entirely up to you. But I always say give a low carbohydrate diet a go first.

Sassy.

The only meds I take right now are statins.

I have reduced my HBA1C by 14 points in 90 days by diet and exercise. My weight is at a healthy level too.

I can tolerate some carbs each day. Brown rice, small amount of potatoes or one slice of Bergen bread do not spike me, so I eat them.

I guess I will find out soon as i have to see the dr later.

I so do not want to end up on Diabetes medication.

I went to see my GP and he was very pleased with me.

No need for diabetic meds and he is looking to take me off my low dose statin soon.

He said I am now a diabetic with a none diabetic profile as everything came back normal and to carry on with what i have been doing for the last 90 days as my body likes it.

Another HBA1C in 90 days and he said if it came back at 41 again that is just fine.
