Hi
Ive bn having really high BS n so 3 month test taken today ready for first diabetic clinic app on Thursday after doc gave me insilin but called to say dont take yet as they want to see full piture on my meds n diet n has got me in wirh them Thurs. My question is im not sure how long they have bn so high as Oct test was 7.5% n told that is was ok first one id had so thought i was doing ok but did odd one over the months since which were always in double figs but highest 17 after a mince pie xmas.So what does this test measure more of tte last 12 wks? Beginning or latest say last 6 wks more? My fasting bloods have gone from 9's 2 as high as 15 in last 4 wks. Im on low carb 60/70 g a day. BS dont go below 10 5 :-( i feel so ill but no ketones as yet.
Thanks for any advice n help
Sue

From what I understand the three month test checks your blood cells. Our cells are constantly regenerating and so when the test is done it sees old blood cells still in the system and the new ones being made and all those in between. I believe it works out an average.
I am worried about my next one. I am hoping it drops much lower. I am often 12, 13, 15 sometimes higher and quite often a lot lower. I feel okay, I know when things are bad I can feel it but like you have tested for Ketones a few times and all is always good / normal. I know that stress is causing me a lot of problems and high numbers.

Hi. It would be interesting to know your age and whether you are overweight; also what meds you are on already. If you are young and not overweight then it is always possible you are a late onset T1 and therefore insulin may well be the best next med for you. It's not clear from your post what readings are meter readings and what are HBa1C. The ones that are meter readings are high and do need to be discussed with the doc. Can I assume you have been on a low-carb/low-GI diet as well as having the tablets? Good luck with the clinic appointment

Well im 34 female 5.5 ft yes they say im over weight but if u saw me u wouldnt think by that much. We are a big boned family my son who 10 isnt fat but yet in aged 14 clothes. No one is skinny. Dont think they take that in to account not bn less than 11 st since i was 13 yrs old. I was more over weight in 2009 but had gallstones but had it removed so i cant eat fats much hence chol is 4.. Alway had gd diet on the whole. Only founf out i could be diabetic bk in Nov 11 when admitted due yo stroke which a TIA instead. Focs did test fasting that where inconclusvise so did a GTT test in May 12 after yet another miscarriage n sugar in my wee +++++! B4 test 9.8 after 23.4!! Had to fight to get meds metformin 2x500 a day. Then had 3 montjly blood test it was 7.8% do given 2x80mg glazide oct test was 7.2% daid was good just carty on so didnt test tjat often just if felt odd mostly 9-14 with odd high teens. I started feeling odd ill tired etc but put it down yo xmas n rubbish weather n dark mornings until 3 wks ago i had my wisdom teeth out n bloods where 18.9 afyer tea in hospital n wouldnt come down still wont bn given more meds metformin upped low crn of max 70g a day but my fasting bloods r rising gone from mostly 10s to 12.7 sometime 14 like this 13.5. I feel awful blurred vision headache its like the hangover from hell till midd after i just start to ferl a bit better yhen its nearly bedtime msinly BS of 11-14 with highs of 18 then morning comes n it starts again.
Its madness :'( n making life hard ive bn off work 3 wks now went bk but only lasted 2 hrs n they sent me home so ill from highs. Im depressed n misersble my poor son gets it in the nevk bless him
Thanks

Hi. At your age, late onset T1 (LADA) becomes a real possibility. There are two tests the GP/clinic can do to help diagnose T1 instead of assuming T2. These are the c-peptide to check insulin and GAD to test for anti-bodies. The latter isn't totally conclusive as there are several different diabetes antibodies and even the GAD test won't always show a positive if you have the GAD anti-body. Do keep testing as you are and have plenty of fluids. If your sugars keep rising do keep an eye on ketones as you are doing. As your last HBa1C was above 7.5% according to NICE Diabetes Pathways (see their website) the clinic must take steps to keep it below 7.5% and insulin would be on the agenda so hopefully the clinic one way or another will prescribe it. Yes, it's inconvenient but will at least help; I start insulin myself within a week. Good luck for next week.

Well bn to docs for result which has gone up since last one in Oct which was 55or 7.2% to 64 8%. Doc seemed to think i need injections of some sort as meds rnt working n i cant tolrant having more but felt that the clinic 2day may not agree but im to push fir it as its making my life unbearable which at 34 yrs old isnt good enough n that them levels rnt ok. I was looking forward to finally getting more help but after what doc said this morning i feel that im not going to n that life is just not going to get any better. Ill have to go bk to work standing on my sore feet feeling awful doing 11-3 shift with no breaks in a v busy retail shop. Meals that r over 15g carb spike my blood up by 4 n less than 15g spike 2. Morning fasting of mainly 12.8 doesnt seem right to me or my
Dr. Im fed up feeling even ill n tired etc or hungery cis i can fill myself on salads etc. Ive reduce carbs now for 3 wks lost weight doing more walking when feet rnt as sore n BS around 12. This is no life :'( n my poor 10 yr old son gets my mood swings poor boy its not fair on him or me.
