Hi All

I was diagnosed with TYP2 in Early Nov. Hb1ac was 12. I have lost 18 Kg down to 78Kg. Very careful with Diet. I was put on Metaformin 2x1000mg. BGL once or 2 times per day always 4-5.5 mmol/l range. I had another test feb 3 Hb1ac is 11%...BGL is 4.1 mmol. I am active , but work long hours...I am also on Valstran 160mg for BP. BP is 120/80...Yesterday started taking BGL 4 times a day to see what happens...I do not have any side effects from Metaformin...Doc will change drug? keep on doing what I am and exercise more and check what is the issue....what do you suggest?

When you say you test your bloods once or twice a day are you doing that before or after food? Your HbA1c results and your finger prick tests don't seem to be correlated which could mean that you are having spikes when you are not testing? Also what kind of a careful diet are you following? Weight loss is great but something obviously not right elsewhere.

@yawar In another thread you said you have cut down on fat/oily and sugary foods. You need to avoid or limit carbohydrates as they turn to sugar in your body.
A lot of people on this forum follow a Low Carbohydrate High Fat approach to eating which has lowered their HbA1c levels.

Hi

I was checking my BGL 2-4 hours after lunch. I have checked right after I wake up and it is well within range. Now I starters testing 4 times a day, so far highest reading is 4.9 mmol right after waking up. The only carbs I eat are 2-3 brown toasts per day, I started doing that in January at dinner time...my exercise regimen had also been lacking in the last 3 weeks....I would like to get this low carb diet book. I do eat baked/grilled fish 2 times a week....I am looking for a bad reading, until then I will continue Metaformin....

Thanks for your reply! Appreciate it...

See if you can get a c-peptide test, at least you'll know whether pancreas is working properly or not or even somewhere in between.

Careful with diet is good but means different things to different people. So long as you've cut pasta/ rice spuds, a few slices of bread doesn't sound like much but see what happens if you cut all obvious carbs and then maybe look out for the less obvious. Most people will eat around 250gms of carb, I get along with < 100gms, others will have to go lower some higher.

All the best

Hiya. Hope this may help. I am type 2 and had a hba1c level of 105 mmol. Was told I needed to inject insulin. Refused and went on low carb high fat lifestyle. Just had 3 month bloody eat again and down to 47 mmol which is lower than when I was diagnosed!! I would give this eating plan a try. Google will tell you lots about it as will diet doctor. I have also lost 3 stone which was fab and feel better than I have in a long time. I will discuss with her the possibility that I am carb intolerant and s3e how that goes. Good luck x

Have you tried cutting down on the carbs?? I did that with great results. But it is very hard cutting out all the goodies. Also processed food is out as so many low fat foods are full of sugar x good luck x

Hi All

I am now monitoring BGL 4 times a day, starting early morning after I wake up... 8 readings and All between 4.1 and 5.3 mmol/l ... I will keep doing this till I find a bad reading, cause Insulin and other meds are given to bring down the BGL or control the BGL....I am not going to go on Insulin as yet... My doc says there are other drugs as well... I notice exercise is very important with Diet! I will get my Pancreas tested. Thanks for your replies and advice....

Thanks Very Much! I will do exactly that , and that is what I was thinking... BGL of 4-5 mmol??? I think I might have had peaks last months at night as I was not testing at night etc .....can that mess up Hb1ac? Funny you mentioned hypo, yesterday I got a warning on the monitor as my BGL went to 3.8 mmol-l, that is normal but low for someone like me who is Supposed to be Hyper...

Thanks again
