Hi All

I was diagnosed T2 3 months ago with a HbAC1 result of 16.3 (Horrendous). Given 500mg of Metformin twice a day, and told to 'lose weight', as last November I was north of 18 stone (I am only 5'7). Since then I have lost a fair degree of weight and am 15'2 today.

I have just had another test and it was 9.2. Not where I want it to be but the doctor was very pleased with the fall since the last test. He also supported my policy of lower carbing (150g a day currently, for the last 2 months).

I need to lose more weight, up my excercise and perhaps reduce carbs a bit more. I am going to go for 125g and see how I get on, and also get a meter.

I just wanted to post because I have been very worried that my levels would not have dropped at all, but also to say that the general pricipals of reducing carbs and weight do seem to have an impact on blood sugar levels.

I don't think that's a bad result for 3 months in from diagnosis. A drop from 16.3 to 9.2 is pretty good!

I think it would be a great idea to get a meter then you can keep an eye on your levels before and after eating because at the moment you are working 'blind'.

Keep it up

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered a meter, which hopefully will be with me in a day or so. Interestingly, my doctor, who I think is excellent in a number of ways, was against testing, unless you are taking drugs that may cause hypos. His view, which he said was supported by research, was that HbAC1 levels were the best guideline to 'poor outcomes', rather than constant testing.

He was fine that I disagreed with this, and said he would be happy to prescribe a meter and strips if I go onto different drugs in the future. As I mentioned, he was fine with low carbing, knew and liked this website, and supported my views on drugs that stimulate the pancreas. He is just against daily testing for T2's.

I just feel some relief today that what I am doing is having an effect, I just need to do more!

That's a pretty good start so well done especially if you've done that with no meter to help. Once you have a meter you will be amazed how just a few grams can make a load of difference so you might not be too far away. 125 sounds a good move so good luck.

We all have to start somewhere and you have made a brilliant start. Next time your HbA1c will be nearer what you want. Great job so far
