Before i got my levels down i used to be on metformin ,levimir, novorapid and byetta, this was up to 2012 im just on metformin now but ive juat gathered all old drugs togethet amd noticed the box said 1 metformin am and 2pm now these are 1000mgs cud this have done me any arm i.was obviouslyttaking what was on the box didnt realise til now that 2000 the top dose. Cud it.of done me some damage im now javing lot of symptoms noone knows from wot cud it be medication induced.

The old maximum dose used to be 3000 mg of metformin. They reduced it to 2000 mg because anything over that doesn't have that much effect. I was on 2550 mg per day until recently, I had it changed to 2000 mg SR, but this only happened because I asked.

The main problem with metformin is that it can deplete your Vitamin B12 levels - have a look at this and see if you have any of the symptoms http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/anaemia-vitamin-b12-and-folate-deficiency/Pages/Introduction.aspx

I would go back to your GP and query the dose. Under current recomendations the maximum is 2000 mg per day.
