A friend has just been told her blood test result for diabetes is 37, so no further action is needed. It was a fasting venous test done at the hospital.

we cant work out what this figure means. Any ideas?

That would have been an excellent question to ask the doctor.

The result of "37" (presumably ifcc hba1c in mmol/mol) is, as you were told, in the healthy range. That means that your BG is not considered abnormal by the medical professionals that decided on diagnostic thresholds. What more do you want to know?

We want to know what 37 relates to.

I had my HbA1c result as a percentage eg.5.7%, not just a number.

so what is 37 as a percentage? Is it a percentage? how does it relate to blood meter test figures?

and it was the receptionist who gave the info, not a doctor.

37 IFCC <=> 5.5% DCCT which equates to an average BG of 6.2 mmol/L
