40 not out

Happy Birthday and here's to the next 40 years. My dear old aunt was diagnosed shortly after insulin was introduced in the 1920s and lived into her late 80s. Even then it was a nasty fall that finished her off. Believe it or not she fell into an empty grave . . . . while attending a funeral. She would definitely have seen the irony(?), humorous aspect of that.

27th February 1978.

That's the day when. One day before my 14th birthday. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes .

40 yrs later I am still here. Thank goodness for Insulin. ....

Paul.

Happy Birthday big fella.
You were diagnosed approximately two months before me. Mine is April 1978. A month before my 17th Birthday.
A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, and many things have changed. Back in the day, we didn’t have luxuries like blood sugar testers (we had to catch urine in a container, mix a few drops with water and add a acid tablet, then calculate the colour to work out our levels) or micro fine needles or even insulin delivery pens (syringes and god almighty needles).
Take care my friend.
Ian

Great! I love stories like this - people who survive a long time with type 1. It's so encouraging to see that despite the inferior insulin and testing equipment of 40 years ago you are still with us today. Thanks for sharing Paul

Yes Thank God for insuline and congratulations too also for all the great effort you have been doing day after day for 40 years , type one is hard work

Love this, well done and congratulations to you. Here's to the next 40 :)
