Hi all

I'm just wondering what my hbc1a should be running at, as my consultant is saying it is generally running high for the last 3 years, but she's not overly worried about it, but I'm worried.

Please help, thanks in advance peeps :-) xx

It should be 6.5% (48 in new units). This is where the risk of complications is effectively the same as non-diabetics. Although if you are at risk if bad hypos then 7.5% is recommended.

Hi, I've had nothing but complications with my diabetes to abscess, bone infection detached retinas and now kidney problems, it gets me done sometimes I think I'm better of dead as I don't think I can go through anymore options ive had 16 in the space of 5 years it's just two much for me

Hi. Your consultant should be telling you your HBa1C and you should mutually agree a target you are trying to stay with; do find out what it is. Yes, if you are inclined to have hypos then move nearer to 7.5% but keep it below this if you can (see NICE Diabetes Pathways Document)
