44 mmol/mol IS NOT 6.2 in old money !

Following last week's blood tests, went to see the GP this morning for the good/bad news ?

I did ring the surgery last Friday for results, but only got the ' tell patient it's normal' line, and 'I can't give you those figures.'
Very frustrating. More let's protect the patient from himself

GP had ordered testing for thyroid antibodies, and that came back positive, but little action seeming to come from it since TSH 'normal.'

Cholesterol up from 5.0 in January to 5.4. How do you feel about going on a statin ? I asked for a breakdown of my cholesterol - the thing I'd been waiting for most, since going low-carb. No breakdown ordered, so I'm in the dark, as much as my GP, about that
Said let's hold on the statin, and he agreed (research since home shows this could be down to both an increase in HDL and large-particle LDL, so not worried about that.)

HbA1c ? 44.
44 ? That's new money, and doesn't mean anything to me ! GP reached in his drawer for a converter table, and announced 6.2.

Once home used this website's own converter.
44 IS NOT 6.2. It's 6.176 !!!!!!!!!!

My last HbA1c was 6.6 so happy with that :D :D

Back to doc in August, when I'm sure he'll want to push for statin

Great news Geoff well done on the hBA1c of 6.176 :D . I am shocked the GP didn't have a breakdown and how he just assumed as it was over 4 you must need a Statin. Can't you get him to do it again as Total Cholesterol is not necessarily the most important bit.

When you next book your Hba1c and cholesterol test tell the receptionist it's for a fasting cholesterol test, unless they book it this way you will not get a full lipid breakdown and only the total cholesterol figure will be ordered.

A full lipid breakdown obviously costs more but without it the total figure is meaningless...IMHO.

Well done on the reduced a1c!

Hi
I’m new. Excuse me joining your conversation, but I’ve just been told I’m pre-diabetic, with an HbA1c score of 44! Means nothing to me - but it sounds good from what you are saying! Can you enlighten me, please?
