Hi my name is Lester I am 54 years old type 2 diabetes for around 10 years now. I am just recovering from a hepatitis virus which dam near killed me caused by either contaminated water or food not being cooked enough.
trouble now is the specialists have taken my diabetic medication away from me because they think it might have also attacked my liver this has made it very difficult for me to control my sugar levels. I have lost lots of weight due to my illness now I am trying to keep off the weight but until I see the liver specialist next Friday I am really scared to eat anything and if I get any pains I will not take tablets in case it affects my liver again I am how ever now not looking like Homer Simpson I am back to my normal white colour and not bright yellow.

Hello and welcome , what a rough time you have had but at least it would seem you are on the mend slowly . I really hope that you get good news from your specialist next Friday and that they can also give you some good advice re diet which will help your condition , keep getting better and stronger .

Hiya young man, welcome and take a look round the forum to see if there's anything you think you can eat. You've had a bad time but there may be light at the end of the tunnel if you can keep your weight down and get your liver sorted. Lots of help coming your way but we have to be a bit cautious until we know your specialists' verdict.
PS Be kind to yourself

Thank you all for the kind words I to hope things take a turn for the better god bless Lester

Hi and welcome
You say you have had diabetes for 10 years so was it well controlled before your illness. Good luck on Friday

Welcome to the forum. Simple foods might be an idea to try, miso soup is used in detox diets so it is unlikely to have any of the 'toxins' your liver normally processes. It might be worth looking up any info on this to see if this might be suitable, otherwise unprocessed fresh foods are likely to be better for you. Might be worth ringing Nhs direct or trying to speak to your own gp practice to get some advice on what they can recommend in the circumstances. Very best wishes for Friday

Hi. This must be very worrying. If your blood sugar levels remain high it may be worth discussing being on insulin for at least a while with the GP. I'm not an expert but i believe insulin has very few downsides and may not affect the liver in the way that some tablets do.
