My 6 year old has been unwell with hypo episodes for about a year now. She has NOT been diagnosed with diabetes but I’m not beginning to worry.
She started randomly vomiting yesterday and has vomited 4 times in the past few days. It has a pattern of her eating normally, then a couple of hours later she starts having abdominal pain, and proceeds to vomit. She then comes right again, only to do the same thing after the next meal.
I decided to check her urine last night and found traces of glucose in her urine and traces of ketones.
Fast forward to today, the same thing has been happening, plus a terrible headache.
Blood sugar was 4.8 this morning and I thought she was gunna be fine but didn’t get better.
She’s had high ketones in her urine all day, then tonight they were the highest on the strip plus she had moderate protein, traces of red blood cells and leukocytes in her urine. I checked her blood sugar at an hour after eating and it was 11.5.
Again she is not a diagnosed diabetic.

Get her to the peds department at hospital now.

She needs checking out and I wouldn't trust a GP - you need an endo consult

It could be something other than diabetes. Coeliac, for example, leads to stomach pain, vomiting, ketones and glucose in the urine when gluten is eaten.

Hi Pippa, as others have said only a Doctor/Consultant can sort this out, there is nobody on a forum such as this that can give you any assurances or advice with such a young child, I hope it goes well. x

You need to have a medical doctor taking care of your daughters health , why on Earth have you begun to measure her blood glucose in the first place if not by a GPs order , it is a problem when parents try to diagnose their own children instead of going right to their GP , many children do suffer from their parents trying to be doctors themselves , go to your GP and tell it all right away , maybe ask also to be referred to a dietist if your daughter has some kind of mal nutritiency

If you are in the UK, then a visit to A&E with those symptoms would get her looked at and referred to the appropriate department.

Thank you for your advice. My gp does have me monitoring these things, that is why we are testing. As I said, she has had low blood sugar and ketone issues in the past.
I do have a gp appointment in the morning. I just wanted to talk to others who may have been here.

All the best PippaRosesMummy. Hope you get to the bottom of your gorgeous little girls problems.

Hello @PippaRosesMummy Sound advice given above, this is a matter for your hospital to investigate, if your GP has not investigated this fully then listen to your own intuition and take her straight to A&E, I personally would have no hesitation in going over my GP's head if in any doubt over my child but it is down to your intuition to know what's best for your child, we really cannot help there, best wishes hope they get to the bottom of this soon :)

okay this sound like you are acting in a fine way in communicating with your GP.. sorry if I was a bit rough on you... just was scared if you tried to diagnose on your own... good luck with your poor child...
