Hello all i was just wondering whats the general opinion on mixed insulin.I have 26dose in morning and 26dose at teatime and my bs is average 7.5 morning 4.5 mid afternoon and back to 7.5 at night my nurse tells me this is pretty good but still thinks i should go on 4 injections a day but im happy as i am.Ive been type 1 for 1 month now.

If you're happy, that's great. Your results are good.
Personally, I prefer the flexibility of basal bolus regime (I actually have 2 long acting injections per day, plus 2 to 4 meal time injections), which means I can eat what and when I want and adjust doses according to activity etc.

I was on mixtard 30 for 6 years after I was diagnosed and have now been on basal bolus for 2 and a half...whilst I do appreciate the flexibility of basal bolus (i.e. not having to eat at the same times every day, not having to have mid morning and afternoon snacks etc) my control was actually better on the mixtard. They were trying to get me onto basal bolus for a long time too when I was happy with my mixtard lol. Take from that what you will :mrgreen: It's whatever works best for you in the end.

My Son was on Mixtard 70/30 and was doing well until Christmas gone when he was having high readings on waking every morning, and because his HbA1c was 8 this time, the suggestion was to go on MDI's. Which we have now done. Still trying to get to grips with it and wish sometimes he was back on two.

I agree with previous poster, your levels sound ok and if you're happy I'd question why your nurse is so keen for you to change your regime.
I was on a 30/70 synthetic human insulin mix when I was diagnosed and changed to MDI which worked best for me as mealtimes were unpredictable due to the work I was doing .. But that was back in the day before the new breed of analogue insulins :evil:, so I count myself lucky. Sometimes it's better the devil you know.
