8 week blood sugar diet

Hello
Only joined this site recently, so just wanted to add to the discussion on 'Blood sugar diet'.

GP told me vaguely that I was pre-diabetic, and mentioned '6.8' percent blood sugar but didn't explain quite what that was. I did my own research and apparently getting a '7' means I would be type two diabetic. Scary. No meds or advice except eat healthy.

I happened upon Mosley's book by accident, and have followed the diet for 4 weeks, Lost 2 stone in weight, more active (walking mostly), lost 3 inches off my waistline. So if you want to lose weight quickly it works, however, as I am not on meds or testing myself, it is quite severe so I think anyone trying it should follow advice in the book, and discuss with GP first (& test!).

I thought I would struggle as I have a very sweet tooth, so I scared myself by looking at end stage diabetes images to stop me reaching for the biscuits!

Curiously, it's not the sugary things I crave, it's carbs like crisps - which I now know get altered into glucose in your body (I know it's more complex than that).

So, for those that don't know, it's a low calorie (around 800 calories per day), no carbs (or very few), and no sugar diet. Not for the faint-hearted.... I would be very careful if you are already Type I or II and on medication/insulin.

Hope that helps...

Mosley's 8WBS Diet works. I started it in Jan 2016 after a diagnosis of pre-D and had similar aims - lose 2 st, reduce A1c, etc. I'm a male in my late 50s in a sedentary occupation. Four months on and I've hit my target weight (9st 3 lbs) and got pretty much all readings down to the 'normal' range. I followed the diet fairly strictly at first, but gradually began to ease a few more carbs back in. My weight has stayed stable. I allow myself the occasional piece of bread (even small slice of cake!) and have upped my fruit intake for the vitamins. I also exercise for 10 mins in the morning, walk most days (3-5 miles) and drink a lot more water. I haven't touched alcohol for a few years, so that was no loss.
I've now stopped thinking of it as a diet.

Hi, I never did the 8 week blood sugar diet, it seems quite strict, so if anyone has any tips for a prediabetic who is 57 years old and about two stone overweight, please help, I know I need to lose the weight, but I am confused, do I cut out carbs completely or just reduce them by half, I am pretty active, what has other people done,?

Was the same here Sonnyp, except I'm a few years older.
I found beating yourself up trying to get into keto just took any fun out of eating so I began by weighing everything I eat/cooked to keep carbs well below 100/day. Average was/is 50 - 60 per day. Mostly veg and meat.
I didn't take any weight readings just noticed my trousers begin to feel loose.
Took about two months to really notice the difference. I'll wait to buy new trousers until my waist stabilises :)
Now after four months bs is down to 5.9% HBa1C from 6.4% four months ago.

I was prediabetic and cut out all sugary foods and drinks two months I turned my numbers down, I didn't eat much pasta and stuff.it can be done with diet but you will need the will power of a saint but it is worth it feeling amazing now and lost weight seven months now.
