- soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
I was listening to a play on radio 4. it was about a couple with learning difficulties who wanted to have a baby. Taking part was a real mother of 4 [one an academic high flyer!] who has learning difficulties, but copes with the support of her own mother, who taught her how to manage.
One thing she said struck me forcefully. I'm paraphrasing here She said that when she goes out, she leaves her difficulties behind, because if she took them with her, she'd be overwhelmed.
I like to think I do this with my T2!
I try to do what's right for me and keep myself fit and well. Once I've seen to that, I then just get on with life.
It's seen me through a hard last 6 months.
My T1 husband developed a severe ulcer on the sole of one foot. It appeared to be improving, but under the surface, it was getting deeper and worse. It eventually went nearly through the whole thickness of the foot! He couldn't walk or drive. so I was taking him to hospital appointments up to twice a week and anywhere else he wanted to go! and coping with his stress as well as mine. The treatment has now finished. His foot/leg spent 3 months in plaster! and I've survived with my sanity and he with his foot [ He also has kidney failure, which can be worrying, but that has held up quite well]
T1 has now driven again and is due to be fitted for new NHS shoes this week. He'll be able to get about without me always there
It's all knocked my management off a bit, but nothing extreme. Now I have to set too and get settled into routines again. I will never be free of T2, but I can leave it at home when I go out
