On friday past I had an appointment with a Neurology specialist about the pains in my leg. After quite an in depth examination and a lot of strutting around in just my boxers  he said that he's 99% sure that I have Peripheral Neuropathy. He's scheduled 2 MRIs (one for lower back, one for neck) to ensure there's nothing underlying, but says he's confident that they'll not show anything. He also says that the damage is more than likely irreversible. He gave me a prescription for Amitriptyline and a warning that they'll make me crave sweet things.

I first complained of leg pains to my old GP over 6 years ago according to my records. So I'm still fairly annoyed that it's taken this long to route out the cause (and then to find out I'm stuck this way), I know a few people were thinking that I was faking it, this just seems a particularly brutal way to be vindicated.

Tip with the Amitriptyline
It will space you out at first I found its better to take this mid evening
the first time you take it will make you very sleepy and feel spaced out if you still feel sleepy
in the day take it around 6<>7 in the evening Stick with it as the effects Will go away with time
this may take a few weeks so hang in there ,,Then the dose will increase and start again
i found its works well for me for the burning and glass splinter pain like pain
I am now taking 100mg

Other side effect is a very dry mouth chewing gum will sort that out
keep a bottle of water around take small sips

Most of the drugs used to deal with Neuropathic pain will space you out at first ,
you need to give them a good try before you kick them into touch

What you need now is ask your GP to see the Pain consultant
for long term pain control they have a large range of drugs to help with pain 8)

Thanks for that Bob! The first day felt like I was wired to the moon, I really wasn't prepared for that one. I'm still feeling a tad drowsy as I type this, so the tip about taking them a bit earlier in the evening is appreciated! I'm at the GP in a couple of days and I'll be sure to ask for the pain consultation. Thanks again!
