Hey you guys, I’m Sylvia and I have a Great Aunt that has diabetes. She was wearing her shoes and they were Vans. She worn them today and then later when it turned about 12:38pm I checked her blood sugar and it was “High Glucose”. So after she went to the kitchen to wash dishes because she is making menudo, Then hours later when she took off her shoes, her big toe was all bruised and a bit swollen and the bruising went down to her other three toes but not as bad as the big toe, also her Cavs felt tight. She is afraid of losing her toe.Could it be because she had High blood sugar today? Could it be because she was standing too long? Can I do anything for the swelling and bruising to go away? Please help me

I agree with the previous poster- she should seek medical advice as soon as possible- even more so if there is no explanation for the symptoms.

Good luck.

Agree on getting medical advice but also a point about her shoes. I had some Vans which made my feet hurt, they were originally designed for skateboarding and had very inflexible soles. If your great aunt has the same type and assuming she is not doing a lot of skateboarding, they might not be the best choice.

Sylvia - In your aunt's shoes, I would want that calf, and those toes looked at, by a qualified health care professional, today. Not tomorrow, or the next day.

Things can get tricky with toes, if the circulation -whether by tight shoes, an injury, a diabetes side effect or even an injury. The issue may be something easily remedied, but it could also be something of concern.

I know it's a bind, but it really isn't worth risking leaving it.

If it's nothing of concern, you will all be able to relax, knowing that. If it is something for concern, treatment can be started, sooner, rather than later. Please don't ignore it.

Just checking.
I checked her blood sugar and it was “High Glucose”.

Does this mean that the meter didn't give a number but just said "High"?
If so this means that her BG is dangerously high, too high for the meter to accurately measure.
This is serious and she should see someone as soon as possible.
