A carb "allergy"!!

I may not be the first to mention this, but I have not seen it before. My brother (also T2) and I were talking about carbs and how it is difficult sometimes to get used to a carb-free diet when we have eaten carbs all our lives. My brother suggested that instead of looking longingly at a carb "treat" and feeling deprived, you tell yourself that you are "allergic" to carbs, or have an intolerance - which is true. So it would be like having celiac disease, but in our case we are intolerant to carbs. For me, it makes it easier to avoid carbs if I see them as "poison" for my system. So we need a name!

I read a convincing argument in Volek's and Phinney's book (below) that diabetes T2 is a carb intolerance. I would not call it allergy, as I do not need to absolutely avoid them, and, say, if I am in a restaurant I would not need cooks to change knifes and boards that could have gotten contaminated with carbs ;)

Yes, you are right, it is an intolerance. If only the medical world would treat it as such and tell their patients they have to avoid carbs for this reason, we might not have such an epidemic.
