Since diagnosis in May I did manage to reduce my levels and was given a further 3 months to improve by my doctor (who's a darling and hasn't forced any drugs on me, in fact he has positively encouraged diet and exercise). Despite low carb diet and exercise, my recent readings have not reduced at all.
So, I decided to try a low GL diet - it's early days but it seems to be working, I have had readings in the 5s which I have never had before - rarely below 6.5! Don't know why it should work better so would be interested in anyone's theories!

Just thought I'd share in case anyone else has hit the brick wall I did

Could you explain your change from low carb to the low GL type of diet? What food changes you have made? What information or knowledge made you make this type of change? Good work in discovering a different approach that seems to work for you.

Kenny

I have the book by Patrick Holford 'Say No To Diabetes : 10 Secrets to Preventing and Reversing Diabetes' and having reached the brick wall and with only a month to go before my next test, I thought that I'd better try something else that might work. I have to say my ghast was flabbered! Today, apart from the FBG I have kept in the 5s with 2hour PPs below 6.5!!! I was lucky to get down to 6.5 at any time before.

I have also taken his advise and tried Chromium Picolinate, along with the tsp of Cinamon I was already taking. I was taking Gymnera but stopped as it seemed to have no effect . The book is available on Kindle if you want the info straight away, I hope this helps.

Still in the fives ! But can't beat the fasting reading first thing. Went to bed at 5.4 last night, woke up at 7.6, b****y DP

Do it whatever way works for you so well done

Looking good

Glad it's working for you.
I picked up a copy of one of his diet books secondhand. I was convinced that I would hate it because of his association with supplement selling and deficiency testing. Ben Goldacre doesn't think much of him.

So when I read it I was favourably surprised , I thought that most of it was far better than I expected. The recipe section in the book I have has a few recipes that I suspect would go down very well on here. Have you tried any of them?
You probably don't want to confuse yourself with another book but if you do, the GL diet books by N. Denby have a good reputation

Well done, Nik, it's obviously the route that works for you.
