Hi All.

Seems I spend most of my day searching for answers , and this place always comes up best. I've been a type 1 for 8 years now , and over the last year have worked really hard at getting my a1c down , my latest being 8.5 which has been my best , before that it was always over 10 , some even 12's. Anyway just lately my control has been better , my basal is now correct so carb counting seems a breeze.

However over the last few weeks I've had what I can only explain to be BAD pins/needles and numbness in my lower left arm. I've been to my GP and I am awaiting on some tests to be done later on this week. I've basically lost any function in my left arm in regards to grabbing something , or holding it for a long period of time. I can't even make a cup of tea without spilling it everywhere. I'm currently on ESA because I have been signed off from work until they find out a cause , and it I can get any feeling or sensation back.

My question is , is there anybody else that has this kind of effect ? And also my GP said to look into getting DLA , even if its a lower rate because at the moment I need more help with things , even to put my coat on.

Hi

Pins and needles and numbness can have a number of causes both related to diabetes and to other medical problems. Hopefully your tests will shine some light on the issues.

Good luck

Hi there,
This is tough. I have had this problem for almost two years now and GP feels that my cervical spine may have problems and I also have rheumatoid arthritis. This afternoon I am having an MRI and in early December nerve conductor tests checking for carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS). I am so looking forward to a resolution to this problem but it may involve a couple of operations. If needs be then so be it.
Don't give up, just try to get it fixed.
