a kind of warning of diet drinking

Perhaps look into artificial sweeteners and their affect on the gut biome.
For saccharine there is a case that it may affect gut bacteria. Many manufactures have stopped using it however. Diet Coke and Pepsi Max use Aspartame and Acesulfame K sweetener. I’d be pretty knackered if these had a problem as I’ve just bought 72 cans of Pepsi Max and 30 Diet Coke.

As for Sucralose (brand name Spenda - invented by Tate and Lyle!) this stuff has been tested at 100 times typical daily use with no known side effects including on the gut as it isn’t broken down by the bacteria. Again i’d be well screwed if there was a problem as I use huge amounts of this stuff on my porridge.

Aspartame has been linked to brain tumours (can't remember if it was correlation or association). As the FDA gives sweeteners the label GRAS (Generally Regarded As As Safe) and consider them not to be foodstuffs but additives they do not require as rigorous testing.
Michael Moseley's book on gut health has a section on this.

The risk was by association; before Aspartame became available.
