Hallo all am on holiday in the sun, forgive me. Having serious high bs and can’t get them down

had trouble like this in March and I had to reduce my insulin, all going well before holiday

now it’s high, have tried reducing back ground, can’t contact diabetics nurse til Tuesday due to bank holiday and I’m a long way from home. How , from high blood sugars can I tell if I need more or less insulin a little help would be much appreciated

Hi Blueduck and welcome to the forum, I just sorry it’s in these circumstances. Unfortunately we can’t advise on medication dosages, however if you could give us a little more information, type of diabetes? Meds that you’re on and what blood sugar levels are you seeing? Some members may be able to suggest what to do. If you are really worried then maybe you should contact a local emergency dr where you are?

Hi, if your blood glucose is high you should increase insulin rather than reduce. You should try carb free/minimal carbs for at least a day to check it is definitely your basal (background) insulin rather than your bolus (food insulin). The sun & heat can make people need less or more insulin. Affects people differently.
Do you use insulin pens or pump?

Thank you both
I’m not new I just could not log in even though I had my pass word

I know on the face of it it should be increase, but as I said, in March I had this problem, I was increasingly my insulin and my bs was just going higher and higher, SDN said I was having too much insulin reduced back ground and changed my ratio

I only mention the hot holiday for context and I have never had this much of a problem before

got up to 16.7. 6 units levimir

bfast 13.4. Carbs 14. 2 units plus correct 2

At 10.14am. 18.1

at lunch went down to 12.1

now finally a lot better 8.4

carbs at lunch 39. Units 5 plus 2 to correct

I was on 6 levimir morning 1:7 ratio on meals, but before holiday had to reduce dinner to 1:10 as was having hypos. On fiasp fast acting and using pens. 3 units of levimir before bed but have reduced that to 2

I know mostly people have their high background before bed but this does not work for me as I had hypos in the night

my logic of reducing night time was me thinking it may be too much insulin again but I’m just not sure

I was confident as managing everything before March but now I feel, I’m not sure, what right or wrong

I know no one is medical and I know you can’t really advise but some info or hints or maybe some one else has experienced this. I do have hormonal ups and downs since menopause and still get hot flushes which affect my blood sugar

sorry this is a bit of an essay but just trying to get it all down. Actually the 8.4 was a surprise as I probably had more carbs than I calculated for as I could not weigh the bread with tuna salad and did not count the tahini

Hi @Blueduck , I'm sorry to hear about your issues and glad you're feeling better now!
Finding the right dose can be really difficult, especially when circumstances change, like on holiday.
I hope you'll stay somewhat stable until you can contact your diabetic nurse on tuesday, that sounds like the best course of action unless you're going high and staying high again.

Can you contact us through either your old or your new account after your holidays on this? Easier to solve once back home ;)
Just send a PM to me or react to this thread and we'll pick it up. Please do so even if you can log in to your old account again, we don't want 'ghost accounts' around.

Hope the rest of your holiday will be less stressful!

Hope you are OK ... is there a chance your insulin has been at either too high or too low a temperature ?
No don’t think so I’ve got a cool pack specially for insulin and the ones I’m using were just in my bag, I did change the fiasp but haven’t changed the levimir
High again this morning, and at 15 now. Upped my insulin ratio with breakfast, 11.6 before bed
Level through the night until 1am at 9
Maybe I do need more before bed, just don’t want to change too much at once

thanks so much for asking, I’m trying not to stress about it as I know it will make it worse but it’s hard not to worry

Hallo
Not sure what you would like me to do, can I cancel my other account? Or this one?
