Hi, Ive been a type 2 diabetic for more than 16 years, and also now use long acting insulin 2 x a day plus tablets.

Im generally pretty good with managing my food intake and BG control is fairly good.
But I would like to know if anyone here knows if a small glass or two of spiced rum (Kracken..a fairly sweet black rum) would affect B glucose levels considerably, at supper time.
I know alcohol can sometimes lower sugar levels, but I wonder if anybody knows what is permissible and advisable to drink, especially as it is only for a few days during dinner at this festive Xmas time of year.
Any knowledgeable guidance/advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

Well at 2.67g of net carbs per 240ml serving.
I don't think it would be too harmful.

But the only way to be sure is to have a little testing before and after and see what happens.

I got though a bottle of this last year (with a little too much help from hubby!).
I don't know what carbs it is (drinks in the UK don't have to show nutritional info :() but it didnt have much effect on my bg.
Try to have just one with a meal, resisting temptation is difficult, as is stopping after Xmas.
My strategy was to have only the one 70cl bottle over about 3 weeks.
I am hoping Santa brings me one this year

Kraken is OK for me as far as impact on BGs goes. No discernable rise. I can recommend Lidl's spiced rum (equally no BG impact) which is definitely smooth and at about £10 a bottle really good value....
