Hello All,

Hope we are all well.

I have a question on the effects of Low carbing.

I have been low carbing for a while now.

I recently ate the following:

3 eggs, 3 slices of Nibble bread, bit of milk and mayo, and the total carb was about 28g to 32g.

So this is a little more than I would have per normal meal, I normaly have less than 20g per meal.

But what I found was I got an headache after the meal and 50 to 60mins later my BS level was 7.4mmol.

Which I am told is not bad 1 hour after a meal, then 2 hours after I was 5.7mmol.

My issues is the headaches after the extra carbs and does the body get used to low carbing and when extra carbs are added, it does not know what to do with them ect.

Any ideas?

Cheers

28g to 32g carbs is what I have in a whole day not 1 meal. 3 slices of the nimble bread would give me high readings and possible headaches, your body would get used to low carbs so would struggle when you have more.

7.4 is not terrible after 1 hour. But can be better.

It is possible the carbs are causing your headache, but the only way you will know for sure is by trying a few meals on the run with less. Many people would be delighted to have the results you are having, so the experiment is up to you.

Sounds very plausible, perhaps have a slice less next time you have eggie fried bread and see if this stops the headache.

What was your starting BG before your meal!

As their is two ways of looking at the 7.4mmol/l reading...

If your pre-meal was similar to your 2 hour 5.4, then the spike and reaction isn't bad in the context of rise and fall.. don't forget nobody has perfect static blood glucose it will rise and fall slightly through a 24 hour period..

But if you were in the 4's then yep it's not so good..

The spike is probably based on the bread, As all nimble bread really is; is a smaller and slightly thinner version of a normal slice of bread! Just using the reception of eating a normal slice of bread (crusts all the way around) but gives a smaller portion..

As to the headache, really couldn't say it could just be one of those things, a normal headache that just happened when you had your food!
