A new pre-diabetic says hello

Hiya, joe here having just joined after a pre-diabetic blood glucose level. I've just started monitoring my own levels using a Kinetic monitor. My GP says I can't have another blood test for a year so I'm taking responsibility for my self as best I can,

Thanks for your welcome.
I’m on my 2nd blood glucose monitor and not getting far with it.
I can only get it to read 1 in 3 attempts so don’t trust the readings it does provide.
Any help, recommendations or advice very welcome! Thanks, joe

Hi Joe, what exactly are you having trouble with?
 
Hiya, for fear of repeating myself:
Getting readings from my monitor.
Only 1in 3 attempts get a reading at all.
I’m not sure I’m getting enough blood despite using the highest finger prick level.

Did you use a contrast medium before you started using? Also have you rung the supplier as they are pretty helpful. You don't need very much blood. Remember to put the strip in and hold the machine upright over the blood.
 
Depth of needle does not mean more blood, you want the lowest depth that provides a small amount usually about .5ml or so is all that is needed a tiny spot. Place the sensor strip upright in the blood spot, imagine a straw sucking up the blood.
Any failure will usually show an error code, this will tell you what is going wrong. when you've got the hang of it you'll probably laugh at your earlier attempts, you'll also laugh at the so called health professionals that usually don't have any idea also.
 
Hi Names Jack. So yesterday I want to a laboratory for tests and it turned out my urine had alot of sugar. So I guess I'm a bit diabetic. Like it's kinda hard for me right now since I'm only 17 and I have a huge sweet tooth!. I'm kinda scared since I had some of the symptoms like excessive thirst and urination plus the feeling of being tired. I'm so overwhelmed and scared.(plus I don't wana eat like my grandma )
 

Hi Jack and welcome to the forums. I see you've posted the same thing in two different threads. Would you like me (or another mod) to move your post to its own thread so that it can get better attention? (Or you could start your own thread yourself if you like).

In the meantime, are you seeing a doctor about this? Diabetes is normally diagnosed on the basis of blood tests, though urine in sugar is a massive red flag that means they should be doing the necessary blood tests asap.

Is your grandma T2? There are a number of different types of diabetes (and you need tests to tell them apart) and I wouldn't at all assume you are going to need the same treatment as her. And the treatments available for diabetes now are very good, specially for young people, so try not to panic.

I hope you get a proper diagnosis soon. Lots of virtual hugs.
 
Jack, although we can’t diagnose, sugar in the urine is a very strong sign of diabetes, especially if it was a lot (as opposed to a tiny trace). At 17 the chances are higher that you’d be a Type 1 diabetic which probably will give you more freedom with food provided that you learn how to dose your insulin right to match what you’ve been eating.
