Hello everyone, I'm a 40 year old mother to a 13 year old type 1 diabetic. He was diagnosed on Dec. 23, 2013 so a fairly new diagnosis. He was in DKA when he was admitted to the hospital and I guess since then, we are embarking on a whole new journey in life. He's taking it fairly well at the moment. He doesn't resent all the finger pokes and insulin needles for he knows he needs them to stay alive. His last endo appt., his diabetic nurse and I have concluded that he is in the honeymoon phase. He's had a hypo attack once or twice a day for a week now. I've lowered his basal and bolus needles by 10% and he still woke up with a hypo today. If the same thing happens tomorrow, lowering it again by another 10%. I admit, I'm not as crazy today as I was a month ago but the constant worry never seems to want to leave. I always check on him in the middle of the night hoping and praying that he's still breathing. I have armed myself with books recommended by other diabetics and educated myself about this condition and insulin treatments. Just taking it one step at a time, day by day. Still hoping and praying for a cure.
