Hello,

Well sort of newly diagnosed - I received my diagnosis just before Xmas.

I've made some changes to cut out sugar and reduce the carb intake and my levels are now around the high 5's/low 6's (the day after my diagnosis the reading was 12, but dropped rapidly to the level it's at now within a week or so of changing diet).

Quick question, my GP gave me a blood meter and a prescription for Metaformin, but other than an appointment for an eye exam that's been about it. I'm guessing that diabetic nurses aren't seeing people due to Covid, but should there be anything else that needs to be checked?

A foot check to make sure you have full sensation is the main thing that springs to mind.

Did you get strips prescribed for the meter? Taught how to use it? And when? What were you told?

welcome! Sorry I missed you were new. And you’ve already done great so you must be doing something right.
Take a look at the link in my signature below. It’s the information welcome we give new members from another member Jo.

Hi, and welcome. Just a quick question, are those readings of 5 & 6s with the medication or just through diet change? If you are not on the medication yet, and its just from diet, then I would suggest you re contact the doctor, as you may not need Meds yet! I am not an expert of course, just my thoughts.

Hello and welcome,

Yes I agree with the foot test but you have achieved amazingly! well done!

I have similar reading and take metformin. I still have weight to lose and have no adverse reactions to the metformin so not in a hurry to get off it.

Well done! Your dr should be impressed on your review appointment.
