When first diagnosed you may feel any number of emotions but do not let them blind you to the fact that your body works a little differently now.
I was offered a flu vaccination and didn,t take it.
I think you can guess what happened next!
Those bugs love that extra blood sugar!
Imagine someone sitting on your chest while being dipped in hot then cold water. That's flu when your feeling a little better!!
Take the advice of someone who knows and get that flu shot!

Good advice bolders and shame you learnt the hard way! :(

I got flu once and couldn't lift my head of the pillow, ever since I get the flu jab every year and to date I've not had it since.

I get the flu jab every year. The flu is far worse when you have diabetes  That's why diabetics are offered the jab.

Actually, I'd go further and say that a flu vaccine is EVEN more important for people newly diagnosed with diabetes than for those who have had it for a few years and can deal with fluctuating blood glucose etc, especially if on insulin and able to adjust doses. Having said that, I've only missed one flu vaccine, because I was working 250 miles away from home during the week, so couldn't get to clinic during hours / days they were open. Not recommended though, even though I didn't get flu.

I'll just add that I had the flu jab 7 or so years ago, and felt aweful after having the jab for a few days. Since then, I've not had the jab, but I've not had flu either.

Not having the jab doesn't mean that you will get flu. And the jab won't stop you picking up other bugs (colds/viruses, etc...)

Pneumonia every winter still haven't been offered the Jab. Spent 7wks in bed with no meds as the local area was flooded and no DR's could reach me .(a little tip ) do not drink bottles of night nusre if this happens to you .5 of the 6 wks my poor wife had to put up with all the windows wide open in the middle of winter .So yes do take the flu jab .I am waiting on my GP returning as she has been of herself . :(
