Hi all I thought I would post a reflection on the last year ...my first as being diagnosed as type 2 last January.
Well where do I start.... I found out last January on my 50th birthday that I was type 2 came as a shock but looking back the signs were there but not the more common ones but now I am aware of all the symptoms I can relate to them.
Anyway put on metformin 2 a day and simvistatin 1 a day even though my cholesterol was 3.4. From there I found this great site and learned a lot on a very steep learning curve ...seen my dietician not very good keep eating carbs a healthy plate she says no I say should I not be cutting back on them ...eyebrows down and stern faced she says thats not recognised by the nhs read this pamphlet...end of meeting.
Now I admit to being a tad overweight bmi 31 so joined a gym and started eating healthy with low carbish and lost a nearly 2 stone..I felt great apart from a really painfull big toe it felt like gout but a blood test said no.I stopped the statin and it cleared away a coincidence maybe but im still off them . Blood tests showed hca1 as 6.3 cholesterol 3.4 so going the right way.
Sounds easy nope come October I started slacking on my eating slipping back into my old ways encouraged by non diabetics saying you cant eat healthy all the time go on have this it wont kill you. Now I must say that when I was eating well and exercising I felt great but after several weeks "off the wagon" I felt terrible and also half a stone heavier.
So I have given myself a good talking too and ignoring the non diabetic do gooders [ they don't know best I do] I am back on the wagon and will stay there and will manage this ailment to the best of my ability.
So to recap a very quick year with ups and downs a very steep learning curve and still learning thanks to all on this marvellous site for their help knowledge and support. We all have wobbles but rember you are in charge. ...a very happy and healthy new year to all
Jim

Good story Jim, pleased to see you taking charge again :)

But statins for a total cholesterol of 3.4 - bonkers! At least you're off them now.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! My D day was January 28th and I have lost 4 stone! Came off the waggon this week - some mince pies and a couple of slices of Christmas cake but back in today! Especially as I have just bought a new skirt Size 12! LCHFLCHF! Wish I'd discovered it sooner! :D:D:D

A timely reminder that we all fall off the wagon, but need to get off the ground again as soon as we can.
Happy, healthy times ahead for you too.

I'm delaying my climb back on the wagon until Friday as I have a houseful tomorrow so, even though I will be putting out healthy things, there will be a few carby nibbles etc to tempt me

Great story Jim, and well done for taking notice of yourself and not your non diabetic friends. Good luck with your onwards journey!

Thanks for all the encouraging replies ..and to anybody new or struggling you can do it... baby steps and ask questions
