A1c Now result

I tried a A1cNow test for my HbA1c as my surgery wont do one.

It is 6.0 or 42%

Compared to 7.5 or 58% 3 months ago on diagnosis.

Thats good - isnt it?
 
Well done Lucy, that's a fantastic difference. Did you get the pack of 10 or just 2 ?

I had to get the 10 pack and the expiry date is 15th Dec Unfortunately I dont think I live near another diabetic who would be interested in testing their HbA1c levels and could use some of the strips. I am considering the purchase as an investment in my future LOL

But I can check every month to keep track of my progress . Once I have got a good eating plan and good control of my HbA1c results, I wont need to test it much.

I am aware that this is just the start though and I need to get my HbA1c levels much lower. Onwards and downwards.

On the contrary, you could probably throw a custard cream from any upstairs window and hit half a dozen. We're not exactly a rarity these days

I worked out I will need to test monthly to get full use of the strips. Otherwise we'll have to have an A1C party.
 
That is fantastic Lucy! Not just for the great result but because it will empower you and give you so much more confidence when dealing with the dreaded DN. Well done you! :clap: :clap:
 
All the fellow diabetics I have met so far just take the view of 'Trust what the nurse says and take the meds and dont worry about your diet too much, the meds will deal with the sugar problems'

Even my Dad and Brother take that view. They think I am crazy. But I dont care. I am feeling healthier and more alert than I have for decades, and I truly believe getting Diabetes may have saved my life, or at the least improved the quality and extended it.

I dont , I just dont think my DSN could cope if I told her I had done my own HbA1c test. She would have me sectioned and listed as OCD.................and probably have heart failure too LOL

Then they deserve to be hit on the bonce with a biscuit. The proof is in the (low carb) pudding - as one of my teachers used to say, "show don't tell".

You know already that what you're doing works - the A1CNow test is just a way of motivating yourself and tracking your progress - oh, and I can't believe your numbers are below mine. I thought of it first.

Oh it is something to keep in reserve Lucy. Give it time. If you are sure of your own readings you are coming from a position of strength. When you have some evidence of your control over a period of time You are sure to feel more confident.
You will certainly be better equipped to go over her head to the GP or Pracice manager if necessary. At present you are newly diagnosed and inexperienced in heir eyes and don't really stand a chance.

Mos of hem know when they are beatedn and will back down if you can make a good case . It will happen!
Contrast your position now with another newly diagnosed person who does not est , has only NHS'dieary advice and has to wait to be told her HBA1C results?

To the nurse there will be no difference between you - for now. You will be able to demonstrate better results . You will be able to show eveidence of both your daily readings and your Home HBA1Cs. You can explain youtr results were due to your diet.
if this is reflected by the lab results , how can she argue . If she does you will be able o show the same reslts to others.
despite wha hey say now i think you will find that they will listen.
Just carry on as you are and all will be well! Congratulations!
