Hi. I am an insulin dependent type 2 diabetic. I was started on Apidra last October and it worked really well for a while in keeping my blood sugar levels down. However, it seems my pancreas is no longer worth having and I was started on a basal insulin a few weeks ago (Abasaglar). It was effective at lowering my blood glucose but the side effects (which built up over a couple of weeks) were awful. I had oedema that became very painful and then I started getting nosebleeds, blood pooling in my legs, haemorraging from the nether regions (am too old for that.. haven't done that in way over 2 years). I stopped taking the Abasaglar and left a message with my diabetes nurse.. she is contacting the specialist to see what to do with me. Within 36 hours of not injecting the abasaglar the oedema started to ease and within 48 hours the nose bleeds stopped (and the pooled blood is dissipating too. My question is .. has anyone else experienced anything like this.
