Hi,
This is my first post to the forum, I normally just browse the topics. I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic on 04/02/2011 and I currently take 1000mg of metformin for this in tablet form (2 x 500mg) at night as they were upsetting my stomach during the day.
I have been having quite a few problems of late with rectal bleeding, abdominal cramps and pains and I now have lumps in my tummy area. I have been to see my GP several times and today he has referred me for a scan as soon as possible at the hospital, he mentioned that it could be the metformin that is doing this as I had the problems back in November initially when my simvastatin tablets were changed and it was thought by the locum GP I saw that this was the case and i was given tablets to stop me being sick and IBS tablets to ease the symptoms of rectal bleeding I was having.
I tend to have loose bowel movements now when I go to the toilet and on other days I cannot go at all, I used to be in fine health until my diagnosis, I started a new job in June last year and have had 9 days off sick so far which is unlike me and although they are all diabetes related and they have been sympathetic I am concerned this will go against me - has anyone else has similar problems with these symptoms? how did you get on? I know it might be a few months before I get the scan date so wanted any tips on how to manage it, has any diet changes helped - is it really the metformin or IBS triggered by this? Any advice most welcome
