Just changed to this ablasagar insulin and once a day. My bloods are running a bit higher than I would like .Should I think about putting my long term up a bit or persevere a bit more. It's making me feel awful

Depends how long you've been taking that dose for... if it's been like, 4-5 days now since you started with new dose and insulin, then your body has likely adjusted to the new insulin and dose and is telling you correct info about the dose through your blood tests. If so, then I'd personally put it up by 1 unit and then wait 4-5 days to see what my body says on testing.
Feel you about it making you feel awful. Hate it when my doses are not right anymore for a while. Hopefully it won't take too long to sort if meal ratios and correction ratios were correct in past and it is just the background insulin dose that needs tweaking.
I would say that I've been moved on to Ablasagar too because of Levemir's discontinuation recently, but I haven't taken a dose of Ablasagar yet because I'm still using up my Levemir, split dose. I had a hard time on Lantus (similar to Ablasagar) in past (had a lot of hypos, it was awful), so I'm a bit worried if I have to take any Ablasagar before starting my pump kit, but that's looking unlikely I think because I think I have enough Levemir to get by before 25th November. I'm not sure my team think I will too because they've not advised if it's split dose again or single dose. When I was on Lantus, that was single dose, and I've seen people on here mainly say single dose, so I'm guessing it is normally single dose, but when the time comes, I will ask my team to double check anyways.
All the best, and keep fighting the good fight!

Thanks for your reply. I have contacted my diabetes nurse and just waiting to hear back. Iwould really like to tweak my long term up a notch as I hate running on the high side .I'm also going to see if I should split it as I seem to be able to manage things better. On levemir I had it down to a tee !!! Oh well these things are sent to try us

Just had the nurse phone back and been advised to up my ablasagar by 2 units. Give it a couple of days and if that doesn't work up it again. She advised me not to split dose as she said it is one dose only.
Will post how I am getting on as it may help someone else.

Great! That's good. I hope things straighten out soon for you now. I guess they advised 2 units because of the highness of levels? Bless ya. Being high is bloody awful.

BTW, I did wonder if you'd done anything like the DAFNE course, or the more recent version called BERTIE that is more available online for free. Might help with dose adjustment confidence if things are feeling more challenging right now. Either way, proud of you for looking after yourself so well.

Thanks for that did the online course ages ago. Been so long on levemir just needed a bit of backup. Been managing well up until the change and hopefully I will get it right soon. Hope all goes well with you when you get your pump!!
