Hi,
been a type 1 diabetic for 38 years, im on lantus and novorapid insulin. back in march my blood sugars were under control until begging of april. I was on 12 unit of lantus in the morning and 8 units before bed with novorapid at 1-10 carbs.

My sugar levels were under control when i used to sleep my sugar levels were between 8-12 and wake up at sugar levels of 4. recently not sure what is going on but started to wake up with sugar levels of 15 - 18. The disbetic nurse changed my lantus to 18 units at night and 18 in the morning. and adjusted my carb ratio to 1 unit to 3 carbs which s more than double the dose i was on. That seems to make no difference i had 60 carbs for lunch with an injection of 14 units of novo rapid my sugar levels were 18 3 hours later which i cannot understand why. Wondering if anyone is having the same problems?, this only started in early April

That's a strange one, is it your nurse who usually sets your doses?

it was the diabetes specialist at the hospital who set up the initial does then she told me to increase it, i thought it was strange to double the dose at once but there seems to be no difference in BG levels

Have you changed your insulin pen and insulin to check they are not faulty?
And are you rotating your injection sites?

I agree that is atypical, did they give you any reason why they thought that was the best option for you?

Yes I have changed both pens and got new prescriptions in case the packs were damaged, I regularly change injection sites and have even been exercising more than usual

They said sometimes you get insulin resistance which I thought was strange
That is undeniably true, the method they’re using to fix that issue is not one I’m familiar with. So I think, at the risk of not being particularly helpful, it’s worth bringing up with them (possibly over the phone) that the change is not having the desired effect.

Don’t think it would responsible for me to suggest anything else given my unfamiliarity with their methods.

I’ve found over years that my body does not respond to the same insulin - At the start of the century I changed from actrapid and insulatard to Novorapid and Levimir yet 20 years on I have changed to Tresiba and FIASP (Tresiba was a particular game changer for me as was taking far too much Levimir ) Just maybe worth speaking to your DN regards changing insulin
