Re: Accu-chek Aviva Expert

Doh! My apologies, in my haste to post a reply, I hadn't noticed the model in the title. Sorry .....

I have one but don't use it any more,

It's very good but you get used to how much insulin to take after a while so it's faster to do the sums in the head. Once you stop using the calculator it just becomes a large meter

But it does work well and I had no issues in the time I used it

Re: Accu-chek Aviva Expert

The Aviva Expert is a very good meter, you do have to input all the the information first and change it when necessary but it does what it says on the box. It's clever that it calculates the insulin already on board and takes this into account if you inject in that time frame, also the health and exercise feature is a big plus too so that it will increase or deduct your insulin dose taking into account what you input into the meter.

Only criticism is it doesn't allow for meals where you have to split dose.....say for a meal that is highish in fat, also like the other Aviva meters you do need to provide a good blood sample for the meter to work, the error messages can be annoying when you don't apply enough.

For the meter to work effectively you do need to use it all the time, so if your used to using 2 meters it may not be for you.

Re: Accu-chek Aviva Expert

Many thanks for all your replies. I'm still finding it a big help just struggling to get a decent amount of strips from gp surgery. My regular gp back at work next week so hopefully she'll help. Thanks again!

Re: Accu-chek Aviva Expert

Very helpful meter, I use it in conjunction with a accu chek mobile, which runs on the same software package so data from both meters can be input to the software to get a true overall picture,
You need to be with good carb counting , The "Carbs and Cals" book (yello?) is very good for info with regard to Carb weights in foods, as the amount of carbs you eat will determine the amount of insulin you need, the meter will also take into consideration stress, exersice, illness, which will all alter the amount of insulin required.
If you put in the time to begin with the results can be fantastic, I rarely see a reading below 4, or above 8, and i'm normally between 5 and 7, at all times, also I found my DSN a huge resource and help with this,
but you MUST be true to the meter, because if you not and put c**p in , it will give you the same back out!!!, and then poor control,

Good luck
