Accu Chek Mobile, any good?

Helloo!

So I use the Accu-Chek Aviva Expert to measure my bg levels throughout the day (I'm type 1), I was bored the other day and decided to check out other bg meters they have on the Accu-Check website, & came across the mobile meter, well.. I decided straight away that I want it, haha! :lol: it looks sooo much easier, you don't have to use any test strips, instead it has 50 test strips in a cassette. I am a 16 year old teenager, only been diagnosed this year in feb, I go out a lot with friends, and testing is annoying especially with the strips and that, I'm 17 this year, so will be starting to drive, I suppose the mobile meter could be handy then?

I did more research, the mobile itself isn't that expensive!, but on different websites the price of the cassettes are different, some are at reasonable prices and some are expensive, which is a disappointment.

I was wondering if anyone has this mobile meter and is it much better than the aviva expert or? And would the cassettes be available through prescription?

I've been using one of the these for a couple of weeks now. It's more bulky than my previous meter (iBG Star) but what I like about it is that it's all-in-one... you don't have to fumble about with 3 things to get your test. And as a Type 1, the cassettes and lancets are available on prescription.

I never had an Aviva Expert so can't say if it's better.
 
Hiya, I use the Aviva Mobile and it's great. So simple. Just need to make sure you get a good blob of blood onto the tape or it wastes a test. If you're type 1 you should get all your prescriptions for free whether they are specifically for diabetes or not. Good luck with it.

I have been using the mobile for two years, I now wouldn't use anything else. The cassette is great to use rather than strips. If you can get the cassette and lancelets on prescription, go for it.

I had one when they first came out and hated it, it was to bulky and didn't think the bg readings were that reliable compared to the Accu-chek Nano I was using at the time, I think the meter itself has been improved since so can't comment on the current model.
 
I Got mine for nothing from Accuchek itself, contact them by email you may get one too, also if i buy cassettes i get them from ebay about 25 quid for 100 - 2 cassettes

Hi Deanna .
The only thing I should mention is the accucheck mobile is bigger/chunkier in size plus a lot heavier in weight .
It was for this reason I gave mine away to a bloke who worked outdoors .

My accucheck nano is tiny and so much lighter in weight
Much easier to carry around in my handbag :thumbup:

Hi Anna, that's going to be the downside thing about it!:/, yea I have the nano, it is small, but it doesn't carb count /: so it's not helpful for me unfortunately /:

I've been using the AccuChek Mobile for a couple of months now and it is really easy to use and much better than having to dispose of needles and strips after every test.

HOWEVER . . . .

when I presented a prescription for new test cassettes to my local pharmacy, I was told that they are only allowed to prescribe a certain number of cassettes each month so I've had to wait a week to get some more cassettes.
 
I have had the mobile for about 2 months and am very happy with it. It is bulky compared to some machines but if you register the meter you get a handy carry case which I find also holds my Humalog pen and lancets/needles. As above, you do need a good big blob of blood, I wasted many tests before I figured this one out! The first time I got the cassettes on prescription my doctor couldn't find them on the system and had to write it out by hand. Cue much huffing and puffing (the Gp, not me!!) but otherwise I haven't had a problem with it. A general thumbs up.

Www, I'm looking forward to it now!, hope my local pharmacy won't have any problems with getting the cassettes in!:/ we'll have to see about that!

Just my opinion.

I prefer the GlucoMen LX+ to all the meters I have had, but my specialist wants me to use the Aviva Expert, it has far more features that benefit me and is going some way to help me control my diabetes.

I also have the Accu Chek compact, it is very hand to take out but lacks some of the useful features of other meters.
 
I am type 2 & when I was diagnosed was worried about testing everyday as my Mum had a machne with strips & it wasn't very successful, but our surgery gave me( yes gave me for free) an Accu chek mobile & I think its great, its so easy to use( apart from the fact that I don't bleed easily..lol) It is also very portable, I have been away numerous times an find it light to carry, so I would recommend it to anyone :D
Wth regards to the cassettes, you should be able to get those on prescription, which is free if you are diabetic( either type) also the lancets are availabe on prescription, ask your GP about them
 
Hi. I have a Breeze 2 meter which Bayer sent me, and which I find excellent. There are 10 strips in a disc, but unfortunately they are not easy to obtain at the moment. May have to change soon so am taking note of all your comments.

I have been using it for a few weeks and I must say I like it, I agree with the take care with blood cos its annoying when you miss or don't get enough on the strip. Just have to see if the Doc. will prescribe it.
 
I've had the mobile for about 2 months now, its the best machine by far. If you drive, its really easy to use and no needles or test strips to dispose of. :)
