Hello,
Recently went to the chemist to pick up a prescription of accu chek multiclix lancets and I was told they have been discontinued and I was to go to my G.P to get an alternative ... I don't have another lancet device so the nurse gave me some unistix to last me till Monday .. I phoned accu chek and was told that they will send some but would take up to 10 days and I asked why is it so long and they said it's not an emergency item but was told that the doctor could prescribe accu chek safe-t- lancets but my doctor isn't happy to prescribe them ... I would have thought since I am on insulin treatment and I have to test that I would have been at least been given some lancets .. I am unsure what to do as I don't have many left ???
Any suggestions

Hi I have got a full box that I don't need as I use the fastclix lancets now. If you pm me your address I can post them out to you tomorrow.

Thanks for the offer Anne very much appreciated,
Was more wondering what to do long term as they have discontinued the lancets and doctor is not willing to prescribe different ones.
Have got an appointment Monday with a different G.P but unsure what to ask for
Does any one know any lancets that are single use but is a device its self rather then a needle at the end of a stick?
Thanks again though Anne

What about contacting Roche and asking them if they can send you a new one. I now use their Fast Clix device (which is supposed to be the least painful one to use). It also has a drum with 6 lancets in it but it is smaller than the Multiclix.

I have been told by the chemist that the lancet devices only come with machines by the and should ask for single use lancets like these ones :

I have been told to use the ones that have a needle on the end of a stick but they are really painful

So do you think they would do that then @scotty57

If you call Roche they will probably send you a new meter which will have a MultiClix device with it.

Well, I rang on Tuesday as I was having problems with my fastclix, seemed to be bruising my fingers and needing a lot of pressure to make it work and they sent me 2 new ones. Its worth a try. The worst they can do is say no ;)

There's a good chance of that they sent me an offer of a free upgrade to their new mobile meter which I took up it will be ok as a spare,
And not bad considering my existing meter is only three month old

I'm surprised your pharmacist was unable to help you - neither lancets nor lancing devices are prescription items, and whilst you can get them on prescription or free from the manufacturer (e.g. With a meter) you can also buy them in pharmacies (boots website list a medisana lancing device for £3.99, so you could have either bought that outright or gone to your GP to request a prescription for that because the old lancets have been discontinued)

In general, I find that pharmacists are a lot more helpful with this since they actually know the stuff whilst GPs just pick stuff from a catalogue of hundreds of very nearly identically named items.

Thanks for the offer Anne very much appreciated,

Tell the doctor to stop being a bloody idiot? They wouldn't have prescribed lancets if you didn't need them, and that need didn't magically go away when the manufacturer stopped making the specific type of lancet you were using...

I have had a lot of trouble with my doctor before - when I was first diagnosed i was given a letter to take to my gp to get a repeat prescription and it said I needed to test 6-8 times per day but apparently he thought that's too much and should only test 4 times a day ... Went saw another doctor and problem sorted
