Hi does anyone use this pump and how do you find it?Is it painfully to insert and when insulin is being pumped in can you feel it going in ,does it sting ?weve been looking at inserting devices you just click and it puts it in for you,dies this hurt

No pain, and can't feel the insulin going in. good idea though is to have a sample of the different cannulas, to find the best one.

Shouldn't be a problem, rep should have a few on the training day, worth mentioning before hand so the rep can ensure he got some different ones. when you start on the pump, you are then registered with roche, abs must order all pump consumables direct yourself, then they ar delivered within 4 days. On my first order, I ordered the different cannulas and different length tubes.

Does the thing that clicks the cannula in hurt when I've watched it on you tube the click sound frightens me .ive took the week off work is it really really hard to start with and could she be really high while we get dose right ? How will they no what to start her on and will the ratios stay the same .sorry for the 101 questions really excited but nervous at the same time

What cannula do you find works for you,are the needles different lengths and do you order direct every time not by perscription at chemist/doctors.do we still need to carry injections with us incase pump fails and has it ever failed on you?we got talked out the omnipod because of the problems they have had with it on children

The cannula inserter hasn't hurt once since using it. Used to do it by hand as I used the cannula not comparable with inserter. but recently decided to re~try the cannula with inserter. Much better. At the training, the rep calculates the hourly basal rates on a computer, using current basal doses as a guide. Probably will need close monitoring and adjusting within the first few weeks. Is all worth it :)

Currently using flexlink 6mm cannuals, soft cannula inserted with machine, pull the metal pin out. If you do dissconnect from pump for any reason, just the flat bit left on skin. Did use these at first but had a few problems but wasnt using machine. Have also got 6mm rapid ds, but, if disconnected from pump for bathing, swimming left with a short tube still attached to skin

Think you can get 4,6mm and longer.

Always direct from roche for pump consumables, chemists don't stock them. Still have strips,lancets through prescription at chemist. Also, leave insulin pens on prescription just as a back up.

do we still need to carry injections with us incase pump fails
Personally, only carry pen now when travelling a long way from home.


and has it ever failed on you?
been caught a few times only, mainly due to me forgetting to change the insulin cartridge and got too low. Now change when on 30 ish units left as seems to not be able to work 100% when below 20. Just not enough pressure I think.

we got talked out the omnipod because of the problems they have had with it on children
not read Alot on the omnipod, but was wondering about one just because its tubeless.

There is a new updated accuchek roche upgraded pump coming out next year with a touch screen remote control and a different cartridge system...
If it was me... I would try to get the new pump .. But so far we havent got any ideas what month it will be launched over in UK.
I love my combo pump... And mine is getting upgraded in September next year, so hoping that the new pump is avsilable then, otherwise I will carry on with my old pump..
4 years is a long time to wait for a pump upgrade, when there's the possibility of getting the newest upgrade next year....
 
We get pump jan 27th . I am aware bout pump upgrade but I don't think for Chloe's sanity we can wait for it,she's cries everyday still with injections were seeing a councillor on Monday to help with her anxiety about it like the nurse recommended .i think would upgrade to the omnipod when she can upgrade as will be 13 then and it would suit her needs better,wireless and small.
On the training do they have a practise with saline?read it on here a few times .

Had my pump training consisting of one full morning and started pumping insulin immediately. Have also heard others pump saline for a bit. Don't know if.its personal choice or down to the healthcare pros.

Stings a bit with the first couple of boluses within 2 hours.
Anything more than 2.5u at a go stings (no probs, just take 2.4 & multi wave the rest over 15 mins for a light meal).
If clothing presses on the cannula, I sleep on it, or drop the attached pump hoiking trousers up & down then it'll sting like buggery too.
(Also find a new cannula is a bit unresponsive for the first 1 1/2 hours, I put a 120% temp-basal in for 90 mins now.)
 
Boluses should not hurt.

They can hurt if the sets have 'hit' muscle, blood etc when going in.....however you should feel this as they go in... Or within minutes.

I had flexi sets, but they were not right for me and rarely get any problems with the rapid d ones. The rapid d ones will feel wrong if they are wrongly placed. I am thin and muscly so dont wear them in my stomach... Pretty much always in either cheek of my bum all the time.

A friend of mine has an 8 year old girl using an accuchek pump and she uses her stomach only.

Some have saline, some don't. I went straight on to insulin, but I had fabulous help from a friend... So this helped me enormously...
