Accuchek Aviva Problem

I have bought a new meter and when I put a sample of blood on the test strip it lets out a long beep and apparently switches itself off :x

Try resetting the meter, I think you hold down the two arrow buttons after taking the batteries out of the meter (it may say in the book) failing that ring the Accu-Chek careline who are excellent at resolving problems over the phone.
