Hi! I am T2, on no medication, diet-control only. Recently I have been getting badly aching legs, mainly my calf muscles.

I've tried walking more...and I've tried walking less - nothing seems to make a difference. Some days it is OK, other days really painful.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Of course, it may be nothing to do with the T2...perhaps I'm just getting old...but would interested in other peoples experiences/thoughts! Thank you!

You say you’re not on medication, do you mean just not Diabetes meds because Statins can cause muscle pain, are you on them?

Have you been wearing different shoes? I had a period of really painful calves and sometimes the tendons n outside of lower calf, after trying all sorts of things I finally worked out it was my shoes!
I wear different shoes to work depending o my outfit ;-) my lovely ballet pumps caused me to clench my muscles to keep them on my feet and caused awful pain.

Or it might be something else :-) my Dad had restless legs for years and GP recommended quinine (tonic water) apparently my Dad couldnt stand tonic water so he had to disguise the taste with gin :-) might be worth a few days experiment ;-)

Statins and foot/shoe problems are some of the most likely explanations first off, but another one that comes to mind is blood vessel issues. I don't know much about this, having not had them myself, but I know a lot of people have leg pain due to varicose veins or some other cardio-vascular condition. After treatment it can often be resolved.

You're probably going to need to see your GP, I think.

Another cause for aching is vitamin D deficiency (it happened to me in both arms and legs, but I am sure people vary a great deal).

If your doc won’t run the test it can be done privately, at v reasonable cost. It is just a drop of blood dripped onto a card, sent through the post.

I used over the counter supplements and within a couple of months felt like a different woman. :)
