I suffered for several years with acid reflux (or at least symptoms of it) and had lots of attempts at trying to work out what was causing it. At one stage (about 2 years ago) I convinced myself I had some sort of cancer of the gut and my doctor referred me for a endoscopy (probably just to shut me up). I was drinking Gaviscon straight from the large bottles and was on a huge dose of Omeprozole for about 18 months.
I realised a few months ago that I'd been feeling fine and without the painful belching I used to have, so I stopped taking the Omeprozole (which I'd tried to do before). So far - no recurrence - maybe the Omeprozole finally fixed it, or could this be another symptom of the Diabetes that has been resolved by reducing my numbers.

I don't think I was tested for Coeliac, though my DSN is a Coeliac and would, I think, have suggested it if she thought it relevant.
I never got a diagnosis - the endoscopy found out nothing. except that I can develop quite a temper when an inexperienced Antipodean puts 3 feet of drain rodding apparatus down my gullet.
The Acid Reflux diagnosis was based on symptoms rather than a proper diagnosis.
I have to agree with the overindulgence, I had a rough night on Thursday all because, I put chilly source on my Lamb and salad Kebab, played havoc with the old plumbing and the indigestion came back with a vengeance, managed to ease it with some Gaviscon. Indigestion can come back if I go mad with the dairy stuff too, especially the cream. It's a fine line we walknoblehead said:RoyG said:Me to not taken my Omeprozole for the last 6 weeks. Diet certainly does play a big part, like you I was diagnosed with HH and use to take one Lansoprazole each day then once it had settled down started to take one every other day, since eliminating caffeine and acidic foods I hardly ever need the lansoprazole now, I find if I over-indulge on the wine or eat too much then the acid can come back with a vengeance though.
