What antibiotics are good for acne? I am getting more spots and they take ages to go away. My hair is also thinning. Does anyone know any good vitamins or products to stop this?

Thanks :)

I'll bump your post up @Abby's to see if anyone can help.

Have you seen your G.P.? He can prescribe something to help or may refer you to a dermatologist, depending on the severity.

This article is quite comprehensive.

Although acne can't be cured, it can be controlled with treatment. Several creams, lotions and gels for treating spots are available at pharmacies.

If your acne is severe or appears on your chest and back, it may need to be treated with antibiotics or stronger creams that are only available on prescription.

HI
Many years ago I was treated with Roaccutine. It does work but I don't know if it's still available. I had to see a dermatologist at the hospital. I was then kept under control using femodene combined pill but I had to stop taking that due to turning 35 and being diabetic. I did have the option to try the mini pill but I believe they make acne worse (in my experience anyway). I used to use biactol sensitive face wash once a day, now I just use a mild face wash and water. You have to be gentle on your skin or it can make it worse. I now have dry skin and use aveeno lotion but I try to avoid cream on my nose etc. What is your diet like? I found since avoiding carbohydrates, my skin is more manageable. Eat lots of veg!

I hope this helps.

Hi Tweetypie thanks for your post. I tried Roaccutane but I think that is what gave me diabetes in the first place. I wouldn't try it again. I am on dianette now but that doesn't seem to be doing much. It's very difficult! More veg is a good idea! And I probably don't drink enough water.

I know someone who tried that stuff ... it cleared up ALL her acne but the side effects (in her case at least) were alarming.

Be careful with antibiotics because the nature of acne and pimples can be really different. The problem can be really deep in your body and you need the special antibiotic treatent. Not every group of antibiotic can help. Consult with a doctor immediately!
