Actos(Pilogliza..)

I have been taking Actos tablets for many years, but at my last check up my medication was changed, they told me to stop taking Actos as they were investigating the likelehood of it causing stomach cancer and I was put on Glimepiride (1mg). I must admit that this seems to be working well as my sugar count has gone down. My question is has anyone else heard about the problem with the ACTOS tablets. Thanks - Davo

Yeah I was on Actos for a while and did not have a happy time tolerating it and yes I heard that the French had found a link to cancer and it had been with drawn there.

Glimepiride ? not been on that one yet .... are you tolerating it ok?

Just found a definition of Glimeperide ......

Like all sulfonylureas, glimepiride acts as a secretagogue It lowers blood sugar by stimulating the release of insulin by pancreatic beta cells and by inducing increased activity of intracellular insulin receptors

Looks like it acts like Glicacide. I am presuming its of the same family and Glicacide is probably cheaper ?
 
Glimepiride 1mg works out at £1.15 per month compared to Pioglitazone at £35.89 so there is a substantial saving to the NHS :D

However, I saw weight gain as a side effect on the sheet so watch the scales :(
