I've been overweight my entire adult life and to be honest most of my childhood. I went on my first diet aged 10 but never really got anywhere, just ended up all the heavier in the end.
I was diagnosed as T2 in June and the weight is finally coming off. I'm down nearly 5st from my heaviest (some came off before diagnosis, I just didn't realise). Obviously my main motivation for changing my lifestyle and eating is to get my diabetes and health under control but when it gets hard or cravings get out of control I need something extra for motivation. For me I've always wanted a really nice leather jacket and if I get to a sensible stable weight I'm getting one. I've also got a one year old nephew and another one on the way, I'd like to be able to chase around after them without feeling like I'm gonna die.
What gives everyone else that extra push when you need it?

Buy that leather jacket in a smaller size and make it your goal to get into it by a certain date, kids are great motivators for someone wanting to turn their lives around.

Good luck and hope you succeed Sue!!!!!

Welcome Sue and congratulations on the weight loss so far. I like you have been trying to lose weight all my life and although it came off its always gone back on faster. My motivation has been the Diabetic complications I now have and not wanting them to get any worse. I keep getting inspiration from the honest and down-to-earth postings on here and wish I had found it years ago. Good Luck for your continued progress.

Keeping my main means of transport, MY FEET, which are already showing signs of damage as a result of years of trying to follow NHS dietary advice :(
Congratulations Sue, I hope you get your leather jacket :)
