additional test for T2

Hi there , I'm interested in feed back , I have just had my first 6 month review with the Diabetic Nurse with my Hba1c at 37 (14% on diagnosis ) . The Nurse felt the reading was too low for a T2 and possibly falseor my diagnosis was wrong ,therefore. I going to do a glucose intolerence test later this month.
I'm not concerned the nurse regards the reading with suspicion but I am concerned with the preperation required prior to the test . The leaflet requires me to take in excess of 150g of carbs for 3 days and lists suggested food items as carrots, potatoes, biscuits etc.
Now I'm pretty certain I have T2 as self test and religously follow a very low carb diet , so absorbing that many carbs and then having a glucose drink is a little worrying

Hi, your not supposed to succeed, especially low carbin, your supposed to struggle, it justifies there advice when you follow it and fail, because its progressive, it's not there advice that's wrong it's just the way diabetes is, we'll I think your amazing and should be very proud of yourself, thank god you didn't tow the line

I appriectate the comment , I think I will bypass the carb diet required for the test , I'm guessing they want to make sure my bg isnt too low prior to the glucose drink ( which is highly unlikely being T2)

Because you have cut the carbs, you are getting non-diabetic figures, go back to eating them and your numbers would rise again.

To show that you do have impaired glucose tolerance, you do need to carb up before a glucose tolerance test to get a correct result.

It may make you feel bad for a couple of days, but this is not much for the benefits of being diagnosed, such as eye screening and an annual check up.

I suspect that you will always have problems with carbs and if you were to fall off the wagon and go (even partially) to your old ways, the diabetes could sneak up on you and cause problems with neuropathy, retinopathy etc.

Many people have no symptoms of diabetes (I had none that I realised at the time).

Edit: Google Carbing up for OGTTs and read what it says there

Do you not wonder though . I know I do and to be fair at the moment I am realy struggling to see myself as diabetic. Not because I have difficulty comming to terms with it but just because of my reading . Ok I would perhaps be considered slightly on the high side for a non diabetic but I do now deal realy well with cards or sugar. I went for a meal a couple of days age and it had not real effect . And I went out last night to the pub on was 1/2 way through my second pint of cola before I realised I had forgotten to ask for diet . I didnt say anything and carried on drinkijg it as I was with a prespective new boss and didnt realy want him to know I was diabetic so figured going slighlty high would be worth it . When I got home my bgs where at 5 wich is very low for me I usually run between 6 and 7 and have very tight controll on bgs by ultra low carb . I also last week had a chocolate bar (snickers) and although I went up over 2 hours I then decided to test at 2.5 h and I had crashed down to 4.2 or 4.4 cant quite remember at mo I had never had a reading in the 4s before . What this meant is that 2 of the lowest if not the 2 lowest readings I have ever had have been after eating sugary product . I have to question what is happening and if indeed I am or even was diabetic . I know I had every symptom inc verry high bgs and a hba1c of 102 but I think I will have another on done on mon at could poss be as low as 38 . And acheaved in 2 months . I think you'd have questions aswell . Hopefully some of you may have some answers?

Whompa,
If I take a glucose dose (a-la OGTT), I tend to peak by about 45min and overshoot my BG dropping to the low 4s. I am definitely D (primary response shot secondary OK)

I'm exactly in the same boat, diagnosed end of June with reading of 60, the nurse at the time said I just clicked over to being a diabetic!!!, now only being new to all this, I've lost about 3 stone and my morning readings are low 4's or recently high 3's, it's rarely above 6's now before or after food.I do low carb and I know this has helped to control blood and lose weight. Am I hoping or in denial that I'm not diabetic? Waiting for my 3 month results Thursday.
