This forum's administration is sadly lacking. It's a shame because it's UK based, and its intentions are good.

To see the constant spam posts, and even to have sticky posts warning about it, is pathetic.

I'll look in from time to time, but no longer wish to take an active part.

kind regards
Dave

Dave,we do our best to get rid of the spam!Unfortunately we (the mods)can't be on-line 24/7 so the sticky warning about spam is actually very useful! We do not have the power to delete profiles so some of these persistant spammers just keep repeating like bad eggs!If you have any suggestions how to prevent the spammers please feel free to contact admin with your ideas.
To give up on the forum just because of spam is a shame. There is a lot of good info on this site.

dave -

Your hostility is completely inappropriate. This is a free forum for the good of the diabetic community, and to my knowledge it is extremely useful to some.

The forum program does not allow the vetting of spammers, so if you have a better suggestion than identifying them then please bring it to light. Calling it 'pathetic' is really useful, thankyou.

It sad that Dave feels the way he does. I know it's annoying to receive spam but I can't get uptight about such matters. I have gained so much from this site both in terms of knowledge about diabetese and the warmth and generosity of users.

Keep up the good work
Val

yes its always the few that spoil it for others.no need to get uptight over it , its a good site !:)

Dave, thanks for the offer of your services. I'm aware that the people here are a really strong community, and if this site helps just one person it is completely worthwhile. We've been looking at how to transfer for some time - the problem is losing the data already on the forum, not to mention starting from scratch with the community. All of the standard spam fighting tools are either not included with this forum or do not function. We are working on it, honestly. Php has been suggested as the most efficient alternative. The first stage of the new site will be live in the next few weeks. Best regards, Admin

Admin, another site I am on originally was on snitz they managed to archive their old forum onto Php( don't ask me how ,I just know they did it!)They are now on the newest version of Php and it seems to keep spam and spammers out very efficiently.

Unfortunately to keep the members details and data intact is only possible if you upgrade to a newer version of the same forum. I've come across this before, and had to start from scratch so members had to re-register. We kept the old forum going for a short period as 'read only' and advised everyone to save any important info that they wanted from it, as it wouldn't be there much longer.
A few members that had 1000s of posts were upset that they had to start again, but after a couple of months it leveled out, and the majority were happy.

kind regards
Dave
