i feel that over night waking or nightmares or any disturbance that causes adrenaline to kick in can affect my blood sugars......the adrenaline and anxiety feel the same to me and i then know i can't do anything to control that upward swing in the sugars....

meditation might help?....i work hard and thought i was able to relax, but now realise that actually I think a lot......always getting told that....and constantly thinking about the lists of things i need to do , but have learnt to do it in a far more chilled way....i am very patient, but i still wonder if i may have some level of anxiety that could contribute towards my irregular blood sugars......

i don't mean sitting rocking and worrying......just needing to be on the ball

Yes, I think it is very possible that anxiety may be affecting your blood sugars. It does affect mine. I don't know whether meditation would help but worth a try? Let us know what happens!

i have tried hypnotherapy and cognitive therapy and time line therapy and counselling...and am on one prozac a day....i tried asking the gp if i could look towards the anxious 'thing' rather than depression....he knocked this out of play....

its irritating and upsetting when you're trying to get well...my gp asked me what was i looking to achieve??!!!!

i've decided he's not the best person to help me......and so i'll try something else...not sure what or where to go

Stress and anxiety can certainly affect your blood sugars. In my experience, it tends to cause an increase in my blood glucose and I've been told this is normal. Sometimes I feel stressed and this puts my blood glucose levels up and then I get stressed about the fact that my blood glucose is high and the cycle continues. Stress doesn't just affect your blood glucose - it can affect the whole body in a variety of ways.

Could you find some time each day to chill out and take your mind off the stresses of the day? Exercise may be a good example or listening to calming music. Some find that yoga is helpful in combatting stress.

There is also something called Bach Rescue Remedy. I've not used it myself and I don't know whether it would affect your blood glucose levels but it has been helpful for a few people I know.

If you still cannot seem to relax regardless of what you do, it may be a good idea to see your GP and see what they suggest. It may also be advisable to contact your diabetes clinic so that they can review your blood glucose levels and see whether there is a pattern with regards to anxiety and your blood glucose levels.

Hope that helps in some way.

thanks......i find that anything that gets my heart going in the thought pattern affects my blood sugars..

i can go on the phone to an old mate and catch up and can feel the adrenaline and then up go the sugars

i have found new ways of trying to make my self confidence better.....i'm told i come accross as quite confident and without a problem......which amazes me cause thats not what i feel like sometimes......i guess its the old addage that you let people see what you want them to see....

meditation would be good...i tried one class but frankly it was an awful set up and very boring..the guy couldn't have been less interested in his job if he tried!!!

i've tried the bach stuff and others because of some of the awful journeys i've had to do, and diazepan, but not done that for years now....tried to sort it myself by changing my mind set....its working to a point and i make myself stronger ....but when that adrenaline wants to kick in there doesn't seem to be a lot i can do about it...which is the annoying part....

i have relaxed far more, but if someone makes me jump then up go the sugars too

i have had other conditions that i have now discovered were aggrevated due to stress and anxiety......i have helped improve them....but it does help if you can find a medic who will listen and help......not come accross too many of them
