Adult bedwetting and diabetes?

I'm a type 1 diabetic since 20 years, 31 years old. For about a year I've been having problems with bedwetting. It only happens when I fall asleep with high blood sugar, but I´m a bit worried since I haven't had this problem before. Can diabetes cause bedwetting problems? Should I be worried that my problems will be getting worse? Does anyone else have the same problem? I haven't told my doctor yet. The solution for me is sheet protection and of course, trying to have my blood sugar in control.

You may find that this embarrassing condition goes away once your blood sugars are under control.

Diabetes is a disease in which the blood sugar is too high. The kidneys try to lower the sugar by making lots of sugary urine, so you pass more urine in the day and during the night (you are also thirsty). If your bladder control is poor, this could cause bed-wetting. The problem goes away when the diabetes is treated.

If you need any help with your management then please ask as there are plenty of experienced Type1s on the forum who will help you.

I do find myself that when my blood sugars are elevated I do have more of an urgency to use the loo. it's not so much the amount of times I have to go but the fact I do feel like I have little to no control of my bladder, and have woke in the night and had to do the dash to the bathroom.
As well as getting your BGs under control I don't think it would harm to try some pelvic floor exercises. They have them on the NHS choices Web pages. It helped me a little knowing I can control the urgency a bit more. Especially at that point you get to your front door and your toilet is so close yet still so far away. I've been caught out like that once or twice.

My diabetes has left me incontinent. I wet the bed most nights and have day time incontinence too. I wear pads in the day time and nappies and plastic pants at night.
